BRAND PARTNER: IVF AUSTRALIA (VIRTUS HEALTH)
Why is it that we feel compelled to keep a pregnancy secret until 12 weeks?
Why do some women feel ashamed to talk about the fact that they had a pregnancy loss?
How do partners and loved ones handle a pregnancy loss?
There are so many questions, and top of the list would most likely be the question of shame. Why is there such an internal level of shame which accompanies a pregnancy loss? Tahyna MacManus sets out to explore this somewhat taboo subject, having experienced loss herself. She was not to know that she was set for more pregnancy loss whist filming this compelling documentary. This sets us on an emotional roller-coaster which provides a wonderful heartfelt exploration and cathartic story which ultimately opens the door to further conversation.
If we were to provide an overall objective of the film, it would be to open the channels of communication around pregnancy loss, such that the concept of shame can be removed from the equation. Given the incidence of such loss is one in four, that’s a potential big conversation change in our social norms…. But it needs to happen.
IVF Australia (Virtus Health) share that belief, and have a strong desire to proliferate such a conversation and freedom for women to talk about their experiences and feel the support that they so deserve. They have been a fundamental part of the story-telling and journey of this documentary MuM (Misunderstandings of Miscarriage).
This film includes so many women and their stories, each unique, compelling, and inspirational. Included are some of Tahyna’s friends and peers including: Teresa Palmer, Claire Holt, and Deborah Lee-Furness. We thank all of the contributors to this film, for their bravery in sharing such personal and intimate details which helps expose the subject matter in a light never-before seen.
